TRANSFER THOUGHTS

New signings....will they be a success or a failure?....here are my thoughts.......

TOTTENHAM THREAT
As far as the transfers for the new BPL season are concerned, i think that Tottenham have made the most effective signings, and can now really pose a threat to the top four. Firstly, they have fixed the leaking pipe at the back by getting rid of their unstable and unsure goalie, Paul Robinson, and have brought in Heurelho Gomes from PSV Eindhoven. Gomes has proved his class and caliber time and time again for PSV, at the biggest stage ie: The Champions League. His ability to make top class saves against the Cream of Europe make him a respected goalkeeper.

In midfield, they have signed one of the most promising players in world football ...Luka Modric. Modric may be small in size, but that doesn't stop this 22 year old from creating potent, and concentrated attacks. He is comfortable with both feet and loves drifting into dangerous positions. With a player like Dimitar Berbatov playing in front of him, Tottenham may just posess the deadliest attacking pair in the Premier League.
Then they have a quick and pacey winger in Giovani dos Santos who can also play up front if required. If there's one thing that I have learnt watching the BPL, it's that whenever a player is brought in from Barcelona, he comes to England and becomes a star. And i think it's the same with dos Santos as well. He is just 19, and has already made a few appearences for Barcelona, scoring a hat trick for them in his last game for the Catalan club. He could form a wonderful combination with Darren Bent.
And then, the player who needs no introduction, ...the rising star of English football... David Bentley. Bentley was much sought after by many clubs in England, but I think that he made the right choice by joining Tottenham. His passing ability and dead ball abilities make him a fierce threat. Can the Arsenal reject take revenge on his former club???....only time will tell! Phew, I can't wait for the North London derby!!!
Tottenham are looking like a volcano that is just waiting to errupt. The amount of talent that runs throughout the team is just simply immense.Rumours are also on that Arshavin may be heading to Spurs as well. That would surely play a huge part in making them serious title contenders. Dont be too surprised if you see pictures of players clad in white, spraying the champagne all over each other at the end of the season!

THE GODS I WORSHIP

Well, I'm not a religious person, so aside from football legends and guitar pros, i don't really have anyone to worship. Here is a list of my favorite players from over the years. Some of them finished their career even before i was born, while the others still strive and toil to make it onto my favorites list!

1-Raul Gonzalez Blanco Spain and Real Madrid STRIKER
aka:
'El siete' (The Seven).....'El Angel del Madrid' (Madrid's Angel), and 'El Capitán' (The Captain)
Raul was my first favourite footballer, and why not? He has the status of a King in Spain. Any manager who has left Raul on the substitutes bench has ended up getting the sack. Raul is one of those selfless players, one of those so called team players, who puts his team ahead of everything. As a Real Madrid player, Raul has won the Spanish League 6 times, The Champions League 3 times and he is also a 2 time Intercontinental Cup winner...just a few of the many successes that 'El siete' has had. Raul also has 2 Pichichi trophies to his name, and currently he is the all time leading scorer in the Champions League with 61 goals. For his country, Raul is the highest goal scorer with 44 goals. Raul has been suffering from many injuries and hence was misfiring in recent times, this brought him a lot of criticism from many people. But he has shown his true colours, and resurrected from the ashes like a phoenix, fighting back, finding his form, and inspiring Real Madrid to Spanish domestic success! Raul has also sacrificed his position as a striker on many occasions and played in other positions for the team. According to me, Raul is the greatest player of all time, and he is an excellent role model for young kids.

fun facts: Raul has never received a red card in his entire professional career, which spans over 14 years!

Raul also figured high on a list of guys that girls would want to take home to meet their mom!

MOVE ON WOMEN!

"OoOoOHHH....i love Cristiano Ronaldo"....."WOW... David Beckham looks so hot in his new underwear ad!" is all that i can hear nowadays...........good lord!,... Are you fucking kidding me!?!?!?!!!! These are players who appear in the newspapers and magazines more for other reasons than football. What does Ronaldo do when he has had a miserable tournament? and needs to get into the newspapers?...Well he just creates unnecessary uncertainty about his future at Manchester United. If you want to move, then just admit it. Wondering about Ronaldo's future, the press keep strong tabs on him, giving him just what he wants...MORE MEDIA ATTENTION!. And if that's not enough, he spends his vacation with a Spanish supermodel, who loves going topless and..........yes, you guessed right,..it gets him More Media Attention!
Well, I'm a Liverpool fan, so naturally I am anti-Ronaldo. But as far as his looks are concerned..... well, they are as hideous as his diving and playacting tactics on the pitch. Some Manchester fans and many of the BPL managers have also complained about it. And Beck's (or golden balls...what a horrifying nickname!) is constantly craving for media attention, like a kid craving for ice cream, wherever he goes. Don't you have enough already? And ladies, are you fucking blind? There are so many other good natured, talented and good looking players out there... all you need to do is open your eyes to what lies beyond your daily newspaper headline grabbing freaks!

Memories of a beautiful tournament

My life revolves around 3 elements: my friends, football and music. if any one of these elements was to be mysteriously taken away from me, i would surely perish! Football for me isn't just a game, it's my religion. And like any other soccerholic, i was eagerly anticipating the start of Euro 2008, and wow!, what a fucking awesome tournament it turned out to be!!!(for me at least :p) because the team which i was backing to lift the trophy ended up doing just that!, and fulfilled one of my oh so many wishes! And to add to my joy, my second favourite team, Turkey, ended up in the semis, much to everyones disbelief. Life during those 20 days was hard, waking up early morning for college the following day, after barely sleeping for 2-3 hours. I remember how i used to go into the kitchen at half time and make a light snack at 1am(i love u maggi!! those 2 minute noodles are real life savers!). I was the half dead, dopey looking thing in college the next morning, and all the footie fans would ask me the score of last night's game. And while the lecturers would go blah blah blah in the classroom, I would just sit there and daydream and digest what happened at last night's game. But the memories that the tournament has inscribed in me , made every lack-of-sleep day worthwhile!! for these memories will remain with me forever. I don't even know what the name of the damn song for Euro 08 was, and i wasn't too bothered about it either as i never dreamt that Enrique Iglesias would be able to compose a nice football song.

What really got me cracking was Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes. Each guitar riff would send a charge of excitement rushing through my veins and overall, it was just a fabulous song that everyone could enjoy. "Samba de Janeiro"by Bellini was also played every time a goal was scored. I feel that it is the best football anthem ever!. Such was my obsession for the song, that i put it onto my cell, and whenever Spain scored a goal, i would play it aloud, much to the disappointment of my dad.(my dad, like every typical Goan was rooting for Spain's arch rivals...the Portuguese, and thus wanted Spain to lose every game!)

With every major tournament, come the delightful fans!!(when i say fans, i'm mostly referring to the female ones!! :p.. and wowiee!!,there were plenty!!. The Swedes were pretty boring and didn't play any eye-catching football to grab my interest , but those lovely Swedish lasses really got my attention! The Spanish and Germans entertained on as well as off the pitch, slick passing, and quick counter attacking football mixed with the adorable sight of the senoritas....a treat for every footie fan! Oh, and not forgetting to mention Russia , who were one of the surprise packages of the tournament, delighting us with their soccer as well as their dames! Ah, i could go on and on about the fans......but i shall move on and focus on the football now.

One night which i won't be forgetting in a hurry was when i went to Richard's place to watch the Turkey-Czech Republic game. I was supporting the Turks, while he was backing the Czechs...... Surprisingly all the footie games I've watched at his place have been classics, and the teams that i have backed have always ended up winning . And this one was no different. The Turks were down 2-0 and Richard couldn't stop celebrating, and taunting me. The Turks looked dead and buried, but I had faith in the Turks. The main reason i favor them is because of their attitude towards football. They may not boast of big name star players, but as a unit, they are like warriors on a field, who fight till the end, and if they go down..... they go down swinging! And their fans are the most passionate bunch that i have ever seen. So while Richard kept making all the noise, i just sat there silently, and gave him a wry smile. With 20 minutes left on the clock , the Czechs were favorites to win the game and progress to the quarters. Then came the 75th minute, and Turkey had pulled one back through the brilliant Arda Turan. Richard was starting to worry....I cheered, and kept believing.....then the 85th minute.....EQUALIZER!!.... I went mad with all the excitement, while Richard was pounding the sofa with his fist. Then in the 89th minute......BANG!....the winning goal was slammed in by Turkey's Nihat Kahveci (our birthdays are on the same day!) and the Turks were through to the semis at the expence of the Czechs. And then the roles had reversed as I started the victory chants and taunts, while Richard would try and hide his face!

Then came the big game, the final of Euro 2oo8. Germany vs Spain. All my life i have waited for Spain to lift a major trophy, and this was their best shot at it. "Please lift the trophy" i would keep saying, "So i can finally see you as champions before i die". With major competitions like these coming every 4 years, you can't help but wonder if you'll be alive by the time the next one comes by. I called my pals over to watch the big game, but it started raining heavily 10 minutes before the match and my cable went, and I started freaking out. So i just packed my bag, and hurried over to my best pal, Richard's place. So it was me and David(Richard's younger bro) rooting for Spain. While Richard and another pal Noel were siding the Germans. Well, as I said earlier, I've always enjoyed games at Richard's place, and this one was no different!! Yes, Spain were champions,I was happy, David was happy, and now i said to myself...."I can finally rest in peace!!!"
